I'm very much still a beginner, but many of these puzzles seem designed to teach a specific concept to the player. Perhaps teaching the player to recognize when space is not needed is a concept in itself.
I often find myself leaning on the shape of the space when trying to solve these, and I think this level is something of a warning that that can be a crutch.
